Journey to four of southern Africa’s most renowned wildlife preserves when you volunteer with the Wild Zimbabwe Expedition Project.

As a volunteer on this unique five-week expedition, you will pioneer your way down the mighty Zambezi River in a canoe and learn how to survive, adapt, and fully appreciate the bush. You will work alongside park rangers and ecologists in some of Zimbabwe’s most important wildlife areas: Zambezi, Hwange and Matobo National Parks, and the towns of Gweru, Marondera and Victoria Falls.

Throughout Zimbabwe and the entire African continent, wildlife populations are increasingly threatened by a combination of hunting, poaching, and snaring, as well as widespread disease and habitat loss. Increased wildlife research, developments in sustainable tourism, and initiatives in education are the main routes toward successful conservation.

During your experience in Zimbabwe, you’ll assist park rangers and ecologists with research and data collection on a variety of animals and their environments. From patrolling park boundaries and assisting with snare removal, to observing lions and learning about large-scale wildlife management, the Wild Zimbabwe Expedition will provide you with a comprehensive volunteer experience in the heart of the African bush. More importantly, you will be providing an invaluable service to the animals and ecosystems of southern Africa.

As a volunteer you will:
Have the opportunity to learn about Africa’s customs, culture,
    and environment
Assist with park boundary patrols and snare sweeps in     various national parks
Help game scouts with animal snare removal and development     of a system for monitoring bush hunting
Monitor, track and research wildlife populations, including lions,     elephants, and hyenas
Walk, observe and possibly bottle-feed young lion cubs at a lion reserve
Immerse yourself in the local Zimbabwean culture and form a deeper understanding of large-scale     wildlife management
