Combine two unique African wildlife experiences in one program when you volunteer with our Lion Camp & Park Conservation Project in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

As a volunteer with this combination project, you’ll spend half of your time working one-on-one with lion cubs at a breeding camp just outside Victoria Falls and the other half in the bush shadowing ecologists, researching wildlife behavior and snare-sweeping in and around Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Parks.

Over the past 20 years, Africa’s lion population has seen a dramatic decline, mostly due to hunting, poaching and snaring. To help repopulate these regal creatures, our partner organization in Zimbabwe has established two captive-breeding lion camps. At this project’s camp, you’ll feed and walk young lions, observe their behavior and help prepare them for life in the wild.

At Victoria Falls and Zambezi National Parks, you will partake in large-carnivore research, game counts, elephant studies and data collection on all wildlife in the area, plus help park rangers release animals from illegal hunting snares—all important tasks in the quest for successful conservation.

As a volunteer you will:
Walk, observe and potentially bottle-feed young lion cubs
Monitor health and hygiene of the lions, and maintain animal     enclosures
Assist with park boundary patrols, research large carnivores,     monitor elephant behavior and other wildlife habits, collate game     scout reports and collect data on sustainable tourism
Help with park upkeep, including repairing erosion gullies and     potholes in roads, and removing fallen trees and litter
Assist with animal snare removal and development of a system for     monitoring bush hunting

Pippa Wilson, UK

"Thank you so very very much for everything. I've had such an amazing time over the last couple of weeks in Zimbabwe and the trip exceeded my expectations tenfold. It really was a dream come true."

  Tracy White, UK
"Zimbabwe was amazing. I had such a fantastic experience that I sometimes can't believe I did it! All the people at the lion camp were so lovely and friendly, and of course, spending time with the lions was out of this world. It feels a long way from the nursing night shift here in London! Thanks again for a fantastic experience."
