Begin your Zimbabwe Volunteer Adventure with
the Bush Survival Course and get more out of your African
conservation experience.
In this unique, one-week
program, you will develop a deeper understanding of
the environment, wildlife and cultures of Africa that
will enrich your volunteer experience. The Bush Survival
Course will introduce you to the flavors of African
food, help you become aware of the sights and sounds
of the African bush, and educate you on how to survive,
adapt, and fully understand and appreciate this tremendous
continent. After one week in this course, you will start
your Zimbabwe volunteer project with increased knowledge
that will make your volunteer experience even more meaningful.

Ndebele cultures and beliefs

carry it

Identification: Wildlife by shape, smell and sound

Tracks: Matching the animal to the imprint

Safety: Areas and situations to avoid

Animals: The realistic threat and evasive actions

Tracking: What to look for, what to avoid, common mistakes

Navigation: Reading a map, using a compass, estimating
time, distance and speed
Finding
Water and Gathering Food: Seeking with all your senses,
and tips for collection

a Fire Without Matches: Finding the materials, effective
techniques and safety

First Aid: Emergency first aid and general healthcare

Volunteers should be physically fit in order to manage the heavy lifting, carrying and walking associated with this project. |
Throughout the weeklong course, you will sleep in a tent at the Bush Survival Course base camp, and all meals will be provided on a participatory basis, meaning there is a dedicated camp cook, but you might need to help with some aspects of meal preparation. |
