You will be volunteering in Hawaii, Guatemala, about six miles east of the main Pacific resort town of Monterrico.

The Sea Turtle Conservation Center monitors about 8 km of coastline, along which there are 15-25 turtle nests per night during the high season. You will be helping hatch both leatherback and olive ridely turtles by recovering eggs and delicately transporting them to a safe hatchery.

As a volunteer on this project, you will be assisting in the beach walks in order to harvest the turtle eggs. You will also be heavily involved in transporting them to the hatchery and monitoring them while they are there. When the turtles are hatched, you will have the privilege of releasing them into the sea.

Orientation:
Upon arrival in Antigua or Guatemala City, a Volunteer Adventures staff will pick you up and transport you to Hawaii. When you get to the Conservation Center, you will be given a complete tour and orientation of the facilities. You will then be familiarized with your daily schedule.
