 Monitor Andean bears and preserve their habitat when you volunteer with our Andean Bear Project in Ecuador.
As a volunteer with our Andean Bear Project, you will be radio tracking and monitoring bears in the Ecuadorian Choco bioregion, an area considered one of the ten biologically most important zones in the world by the World Wildlife Fund. You will join our partner organization in the Ecuadorian Andes, whose mission it is to protect the endangered Andean Spectacled bear, the last bear living in South America.
Volunteers in Ecuador will help track bears in the cloud forest and collect data critical to their survival. You can walk 6 to 8 hours per day in mountainous terrain and you can also participate in night hikes and camping trips. Additionally, volunteers on this project will be involved in conservation work in the surrounding cloud forest. You will watch for signs of illegal activity, such as cutting trees or poaching.
 Your work as a volunteer on the Andean Bear Project will directly impact the population of Andean Spectacled Bears, as well as help preserve the valuable resources of the Ecuadorian cloud forest.
As
a volunteer you will be:
 Tracking bears in mountainous terrain
Learning
about the Andean Spectacled Bear
Practicing ecosystem management and species rehabilitation strategies
Participating in planting and reforestation of the cloud forest
Monitoring illegal hunting and tree-cutting activity
