You
will be volunteering in a 3,250 hectare private game reserve
in the Tuli Block region of Botswana. The African outback
has always provided visitors with the opportunity to see
extraordinary wildlife. Unfortunately, negative environmental
trends have harmed a number of animal species, especially
lions, hyenas, cheetahs, and the largest population of
elephants in the country.
Our local partner organization has created a wildlife
reserve with the primary objective of protecting the animals'
natural habitat. The owners and staff of the reserve believe
in sustainable tourism, which means that almost everything
they provide at camp benefits the community and environment
in which they work. The reserve has been host to study groups from the Department of Wildlife and schools in Botswana. Many have dedicated their lives to
this project, including the park ranger who lives with
his family on the reserve.
In order to educate volunteers about the Tuli Block, park
rangers have created a Game Reserve Management Course.
This program will give volunteers the unique opportunity
to delve into life through work on the safari. You will
be learning how to patrol the area for illegal hunting
snares, identify wild animals, manage overgrazing, and
perform game counts. Volunteers who participate in this
program will be able to apply what they have learned in
the courses to practical use on the game reserve.
As a volunteer on this project, you will be assisting
park rangers with the research and monitoring of the animals
on the reserve as well as with basic park maintenance.
Through this work, you will be directly involved in helping
sustain the environment for the future generations of
animals in Africa. Orientation:
After arrival at Johannesburg International airport,
hotel staff will pick you up. You will stay one night
in South Africa, and the next day you will be transported
to the Tuli Block region by the staff of the game reserve.
