Knowing the local language is one of the best ways to learn about the local culture and connect with the local community. In fact, we at Volunteer Adventures believe that learning a language is so important to a successful volunteer experience that we have arranged for language training in many of our project locations. Programs in these locations provide language classes alongside your volunteer work, to make for a more enriching experience for everyone involved.

Language Classes
Along with your volunteer placement, you will receive 2-4 hours per day of language instruction. In some of our locations, private lessons are included as part of the program. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, you will find our language programs dynamic, enjoyable, and effective.

If you plan to take Spanish classes as part of your volunteer experience, we recommend testing your level before you leave with our free Online Spanish Placement Test.

Instructional Methodology
With our conversational method of language training, you may be surprised at how quickly you learn to speak a new language. This methodology is designed to make you comfortable using the new language in practical, everyday situations, such as those which you will encounter during your volunteer work.

Our partner language schools abroad use the Direct Method of language training. This means that you will focus on speaking and listening and that classes will be conducted only in the language being learned. There is never any translation in the classroom, which encourages you to speak and think in your new language. Thanks to our communicative and dynamic approach, you will find yourself speaking your new language from the first day of class.

Language Teachers
In addition to using the communicative approach, the teachers in our programs all have university degrees and have received extensive training in how to teach a foreign language. The combination of a highly effective methodology and enthusiastic, dedicated teachers means that at whatever level you begin, you will improve quickly, allowing you to connect on a deeper level to the community you are serving.

Language Classes are available on projects in the following locations:

*Undergraduate and graduate credit available at these locations. Please speak to your volunteer travel advisor for further details.
